Over seventy sites have been created on MLA Commons, from informal blogs to open-access publications using CommentPress to the new site from the MLA International Bibliography. If you’d like to start a blog on the Commons, you’ll find posts on creating a site, using CommentPress, and much more in the Welcome Group. We will be featuring selected sites in the forthcoming MLA Commons newsletter, so send a note to let us know what you’ve created and feel free to e-mail questions to commons@mla.org.

Contribute to a New MLA Volume

Are you interested in contributing to an MLA volume? You are invited to submit essay proposals for the Options for Teaching volume Teaching Latino/a Literature, edited by Frederick Luis Aldama, and to answer a survey and submit essay proposals for Approaches to Teaching Hugo’s Les Misérables, edited by Michal P. Ginsburg and Bradley Stephens. Essay proposals and survey responses will be accepted through 1 August.

CSE Seal Awarded to Peirce Edition

On 14 February 2013, the Committee on Scholarly Editions (CSE) awarded the CSE seal to Writings of Charles S. Peirce: A Chronological Edition, volume 9: 1892–1893, edited by André De Tienne, Jonathan Eller, and April Witt, to be published by Indiana University Press.

The CSE serves as a clearinghouse for information about scholarly editing and editorial projects, offers advice and consultation to editors on request, honors excellence in editing by awarding emblems to qualified volumes, and promotes dissemination of reliable texts for classroom use and among general readers. Editors or publishers who wish to submit their editions (preferably before or at the copyediting stage) for consideration for the CSE seal should contact the committee at cse@mla.org.

A new volume in the Options for Teaching series, Teaching Translation, edited by Lawrence Venuti, is in development. You are invited to submit essay proposals for this volume through 1 May.

ACLS Fellowships

Recent PhD recipients who are interested in careers in government and the nonprofit sector are encouraged to apply for the Public Fellows program of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS). The program, which will place twenty fellows in staff positions at partnering organizations for two years, has an application deadline of 27 March 2013. Competing for 2013 Publication Prizes

The MLA Committee on Honors and Awards invites authors and editors to compete for the association’s publication awards. There are eleven prizes with a 1 May deadline, including prizes that honor outstanding work in languages, literatures, and interdisciplinary studies and in specific genres (e.g., translation, scholarly edition). Information on the individual prizes, their deadlines, and the application process is available online. You may also request detailed information on any MLA prize by contacting the office of programs (awards@mla.org).

Survey of Faculty Members Who Teach Online

The Coalition on Contingent Academic Labor and the United Association for Labor Education request your help in gathering information on the wages and working conditions of faculty members who teach online. If you teach online, we encourage you to complete their survey and to share the link with others. Although no names will appear in the resulting report, those who wish to remain anonymous can type random letters in the name field. The name of your institution, however, is required.
